This is my science fiction series, which includes 3 Books (Birth to Venus, War of Shadows, and Siphon’s Blade) and a 4th Book that I’m currently editing.

SYNOPSIS

The year is 2116. Scientists understand why super-centenarians live to 100, 115, even 125 years old. But, 66 years have passed since Dr. Jai Dean was born and she doesn’t look a day over 21. And, she’s only grown stronger with age. She can see better than a bird of prey, pinpoint the vertical position of any sound, strike a target 600 meters away, and heal wounds that cut straight to the bone. For decades, she’s had no name for it, no label to define what she is, no way to understand her body or understand the power she holds. Jai lives on the run, determined to keep her family and secret safe.
Everything changes when scientists discover the Homo sentient, a new, superior species that can siphon other people’s energy to maintain their youth. For the first time, Jai believes she’s not alone. What will she do, when new friends become family, tensions rise, and humans and sentients are bent on destroying each other?
The world is breaking. A powerful shadow force hunts her family. And, Jai is still evolving. With new skills and buried secrets, Jai’s future may be uncertain, but she knows who she is, and what she stands for.
Birth to Venus is the first book in THE OBSIDIAN CHRONICLES, which follow Jai as she’s haunted by her past and struggles to shape the future when Homo sapiens no longer rank at the top of food chain.
Jai’s story is La Femme Nikita meets The Handmaid’s Tale with an evolutionary twist. It’s a story about the future but, more than that, it’s a story about the things that never change. For Jai, family is defined by choice, not by birth or blood. Family matters, and it’s worth fighting for. This is a story that’s relevant to our divided nation today.

My kiddos have spring break this week, so I didn’t have much time to put something together.
But I’m a big believer in small 1% gains. Every improvement counts, no matter how tiny the improvement might be.
So, this week, I decided to teach myself how to create an Animated Audio Visualizer to accompany my new Audiobook for OBSIDIAN: Birth to Venus (the 1st Book in my science fiction series, THE OBSIDIAN CHRONICLES)! (The written version’s serialized on Substack, with new Chapters released every Saturday. Simply SUBSCRIBE to my Free Substack to read Book 1 for FREE!)
I’ve been wanting to create an Audio-Visual version for some time now, so this was the perfect opportunity to do that while learning something new.
I had a blast making the visualizer & I look forward to learning more, the more that I do these.

All we need to do is listen to our inner wisdom, to rescue ourselves from a life that lacks purpose, and rediscover our dreams. Now’s the time to honor our truest, most Authentic Self. Through my own journey and practical guidance, I offer a creative path to accepting ourselves wholeheartedly. By celebrating what makes us unique, we can find joy, no matter how old we are, or what stage we’re at in our lives.

In the last four M&M Videos, we focused on:

• How to honor your Highest Self;
• How to love & accept yourself;
• How to activate the Reticular Activating System (“RAS”) in our brains to discover who we truly are; and,
• How to listen to our inner voice, to become who we choose to be.

In today’s Video, we apply the 5-Star VICTUS Mindset & Meditation (M&M) practice to be our truest, most Authentic Self.

How often do you take the time to discover your truest, most Authentic Self?

Are you committed — fully committed — to exploring all of your interests?
Too often, we stop before starting. We tell ourselves that we don’t have the time to try new things. We say we’re too busy with our jobs or taking care of our family or spending time with our friends.
We fill our time with hours spent checking off to-do lists, even if they don’t fill our cup, even if there will always be more to-do’s to do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next.
Then, we wonder why we have this nagging feeling of being unfulfilled. This background numbness or discontent.
As we age, the worse it seems to get.
We over-identify with our roles at work. We see ourselves as “professionals” with titles, as if everything we do must come with a title and commensurate salary.
Or we focus on giving ourselves to others, in our roles as spouses, parents, or friends.
We become imbalanced. We forget that we’re allowed to be individuals, too. To have time to ourselves. To give ourselves permission to explore who we are.
To play. To flow. To feel free.
Instead, we minimize our interests, like playing the piano or the guitar, learning how to paint, how to take and edit photos, or writing a book or poetry, as mere “hobbies.”
We “dabble,” because we don’t think it could ever measure up to a “real career.”
Or — worse — we don’t do it at all.

Deep down, what we’re really looking for is a guarantee.

Secretly, we want a guarantee before we “waste our time” becoming skilled at something new.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. We can’t wait for a guarantee before we start.
We can’t discover our truest, most Authentic Self by reading any book. Or by watching any video.
We can’t sit on the sidelines.
We just have to do it.
We have to dive in.
We need to give it a go, to stumble and fall, to make mistakes and learn, often clumsily, until we start to get the hang of it.

That’s when the magic happens.

Creativity’s sparked inside of you.
Little by little you get better.
And, before you know it, you find yourself smiling at the progress you’ve made.
You feel that amazing burst of energy and excitement.
And you follow the breadcrumbs, those tasty little morsels of joy that breathe life into your hours and your days.
You look forward to creativity — for its own sake.
It’s enlivened all this happiness inside of you.
And, you realize, it’s brought you closer to the truth.
Your truth. It’s what makes you Authentically YOU.

In the last 3 Videos, we focused on:

• How to love & accept yourself; and,
• How to activate the Reticular Activating System (“RAS”) in our brains to discover who we truly are.
In today’s Video, we apply the 5-Star VICTUS Mindset & Meditation (M&M) practice to give ourselves the gift of time, to listen to our inner voice, to become who we CHOOSE to be.

How often do you ask yourself, “What’s truly right for me?”

Spring is the perfect time to ask ourselves this question.
It’s the season of new beginnings. Of fresh growth. Of nature renewing itself.
Why not take the time to renew our Self, as well?
To do our own Spring Cleaning?
To freshen our outlook, in every area of our lives?
Rather than repeat the old, dusty patterns of seasons’ past, why not look upon our lives with fresh, clear eyes?
I find myself doing this, bit by bit, every day.
It started when I decided to go through our clothes — my kids’ especially. They’re young, growing fast, and I wanted to go through all of their belongings, to see what we could donate.
The task reminded me of Marie Kondo’s advice for parting with old belongings. According to her “KonMari” Method, “your feelings are the standard for decision making — specifically, knowing what sparks joy. To determine this when tidying, the key is to pick up each object one at a time, and ask yourself quietly, ‘Does this spark joy?’ Pay attention to how your body responds. Joy is personal, so everyone will experience it differently.” Marie describes it as “…a little thrill, as if the cells in your body are slowly rising.”
I love this meditative method for parting with unnecessary stuff. It invites me to pause and forces me to ask if an object is still appropriate for us.
Does it spark joy? If not, Marie recommends we thank the object for the joy it’s given us, then let it go.
It’s a peaceful way to go about decluttering. I’ve let go of the physical objects that no longer serve my family, and I’ve donated them for, hopefully, another family’s benefit. It’s freed up so much space, as I go through our home, room by room, little by little, in short half-hour increments.
It’s made a practical difference.
But, I find it helpful emotionally. My mood’s lighter. And it’s motivated me to declutter much more than the physical objects that we’ve amassed over time.
As I go about my day, and I pause to do my M&M Practice, I find myself questioning my time, the way I am spending it, as if each task I’m doing is something I can hold in my hand. I examine it, with curiosity.
Of course, many things are on my to-do list. Some are required. Inescapable. Musts that I cannot get out of doing, no matter how much I might want to avoid them entirely.
But, so many things are on my to-do list that are voluntary. I’ve just forgotten that they are.
And, the more time I give myself to examine them, the more I question their need. If they don’t make me say, “Hell yes!” inside, they’re now making me wonder, “Why do it at all?”
Little by little, I’m questioning all the hours in my life. Doing a deep dive, to explore precisely how I am spending my time.

How often do you ask yourself, “Who do I CHOOSE to be?”

Join me. With this M&M, let’s give ourselves the time to declutter, emotionally.
To reflect on who we choose to be.
To stop living on auto-pilot.
To stop the never-ending list of often mindless tasks and to-do’s.
To pause and think.

To ask:

• Am I doing what brings me joy?
• Is the bulk of my time spent in Flow?
• Do I feel fulfilled — not just financially, but emotionally?
• Do I spend most days doing what I’m good at, because I want to? Or, am I caught in some sort of “Competence Trap,” where I do what I do well, but it doesn’t give me joy or a sense of Flow in my life?
• If not, can I thank it for the purpose it once served, and now let it go?
• Can I make room for something much better?

Let’s make space for our joy to grow.

In the last two M&M Videos, we focused on:
• How to honor your Highest Self; and,
• How to love & accept yourself.

In today’s M&M Video, we activate the Reticular Activating System (“RAS”) in our brains to discover who we truly are.

What makes you you?
The more we take the time to meditate and notice our thoughts, as they come and go with each and every breath, the more we’re able to unlock the mysteries of our personality — the beliefs (empowering and limiting) — that spur us to greatness, or hold us back from achieving our dreams.
As always, mindfulness allows us to cultivate our inner wisdom. The more mindful we are, the more we can recognize what makes us unique. What makes us special. What is right for us. What we are meant to do.
We discover what we actually think and feel. Separate and apart from societal or familial or professional pressure to be what other people wish us to be.
The more we slow, the more steady our inner vision will become, the more insight we will gain, the less lost and the more in control we will feel.
This is why we must give ourselves the gift of time.
All it takes is 10 minutes. To play the M&M and give ourselves permission to observe. To question. To open ourselves to limitless possibility.

To not only ask the right questions, but LISTEN to our answers.

Are we on the right path?
Are we doing what we’re meant to do?
Are we existing, as we’re meant to be?
How often are we in a state of flow?
Or are we miserable, or feeling trapped?
The power to see ourselves clearly is rooted in our minds.
By going inward, we learn to pose the right questions; listen to our conscious answers; feel for what’s buried in our subconscious; and, discover our Authentic Self.

I hope that these M&M’s can be a springboard, on your journey to self-discovery.

To design a life you love.
To love yourself wholeheartedly.
To come home to YOU.

In today’s VIDEO, we apply the 5-Star VICTUS Mindset & Meditation (M&M) practice to calm our minds, feel whole, and practice loving ourselves more.

Give yourself the love that you seek.

In last week’s M&M video, we focused on how to remember and honor our Highest Self .
Today’s M&M video focuses on loving and accepting ourselves.
The two videos go hand-in-hand.
Because sometimes without one, we cannot do the other.
One of the greatest blessings that I’ve experienced since becoming a mom to two young kids is the magic of having the proper perspective. From the first time I held their tiny bodies in my arms, I was able to see the tremendous beauty in their existence. I could see not only their promise and potential, but the inherent worth that they had. From the instant they existed, they were worthy. Precisely as they were. Then and now. Not because of any accomplishment that they have or might one day achieve. They are not perfect, but they do not need to be perfect to be lovable and loved.
The same can be said for all of us. We are worthy precisely as we are. And we are lovable, no matter what.
But something strange happens when we experience negative emotions. When an obstacle or difficulty crosses our path, all manner of negative thoughts, self-criticism, and comparisons flood our minds. And, instantaneously, a chemical cocktail of hormones can stress our nervous system, put our minds and bodies out of whack, and cloud our perception for days, weeks, or even years.
When we over-identify with our emotions and thoughts, we can truly become trapped. We can mistakenly believe “something is wrong with me” and find many ways to put ourselves down. We might call ourselves “stupid,” for even the most minor of errors. We can get caught in cycles of seemingly unending rumination. And, if we’re not careful, our regret can transform into shame. We don’t just regret the mistakes that we’ve made, or plan how to be better next time; we tell ourselves that we’re “just not good enough.” We’re “not worthy.” Sadly, the more entrenched these thoughts become, the more we repeat this habit of negative thinking and feeling, the more these neural loops run on autopilot. The more they become our identity.
Practicing mindfulness is how we avoid this mental trap. Because mindfulness allows us to create space and separation between our thoughts/emotions, and who we are. Mindfulness allows us to cultivate inner wisdom. The more mindful we are, the more we can recognize that we are the watcher who can see our thoughts as they arise and fade. Meditation allows us to see how these thoughts come and go, and they are not necessarily true. Thoughts and feelings are no longer sticky. They’re fleeting. And it’s freeing to realize we don’t have to identify with any thought or emotion. Freedom is possible, for me and for you.
So let’s build the observer into our daily M&M practice.
Better yet, let’s make the observer the wisest watcher it can be.
This is why, in last week’s M&M Video, I call the observer our “Highest Self.”
By doing so, we can do more than observe. We can see with a critical eye, one that’s capable of assessing whether our thoughts and emotions are helpful or harmful to us. So that we can remember we’re in control. We get to decide whether or not we want to adopt a particular thought and emotion, or simply allow that thought and emotion to pass until it dissipates.
Yes, when we adopt the mindset of our Highest Self, we’re primed to parent ourselves from the best vantage point, the way a loving parent would guide us:
  • A loving parent does not make a child wrong for experiencing negative emotions.
  • A loving parent knows how to soothe a child, regardless of the negative emotions they’re feeling or thoughts they’re thinking.
  • A loving parent does not label a child bad or wrong.
  • A loving parent always remembers the potential that is in their child. Even when there are opportunities to improve.
  • And a loving parent never forgets that their child is worthy of love and acceptance — always.
The sad truth is, as life gives us our growing pains, we can forget what this feels like. Assuming we were blessed to feel it at all, in the past. And we become accustomed to the inner critic that’s taken root in our mind.
When self-criticism becomes normal to us, it takes time to make love our new normal.
Which is why today’s M&M Video focuses on giving ourselves the greatest gift: time to love and accept our ourselves.
Time is necessary to practice this skill. To make loving and accepting ourselves the default.
All it takes is 10 minutes. To play the M&M and give ourselves permission to think any thought that we may have. To feel any feeling that we’re feeling. To acknowledge all of it. To soften and relax. To just be.
We must allow ourselves to be human, perfectly imperfect. And, most of all, practice radical acceptance. To love and accept every aspect of who we are.
There’s no need to remove all the negative thoughts and feelings that we have.
There’s no need to label ourselves, to say that we bad or unworthy.
It’s okay to acknowledge how our lives might be hard.
And it’s fine to have one or many opportunities to improve.
We just have to remember to love ourselves through the entire process. Because we’re worthy. No matter what.
I hope that these M&M‘s bring you peace today, and strengthen the love that you always have for you.
